What are pot odds?
Pot odds are the price the pot is offering you on a call. If there's $100 in the pot and you must call $50, you're risking $50 to win $150 — you need to win at least $50 ÷ $150 = 33% of the time for the call to break even. Compare that to how often your draw actually comes in (your equity), and you have your answer: if your equity beats the price, call; if not, fold.
Pot odds + outs = the whole decision
Pot odds tell you the price; outs tell you how often you hit. A flush draw hits about 35% of the time by the river, so calling a bet that only needs 33% equity is profitable — but calling one that needs 40% is not.
